EU: New rules on renewables: 45% share by 2030

The European Council has adopted the new directive to increase the share of renewable energy in overall EU energy consumption to 42.5 percent by 2030, with an additional indicative increase of 2.5 percent that would reach 45 percent. Each member state will contribute to this common goal. “All member states will contribute to more ambitious sectoral targets in transport, industry, buildings, and district heating and cooling. The purpose of the sub-targets is to accelerate the incorporation of renewable energy in sectors where incorporation has been slower,” reads an EU Council note.
