Italy’s production system sees a significant presence of firms (3.6 million, or 16 percent of industry and market services firms residing in the EU27 in 2020) higher than that of France, Spain and Germany.
The share of medium to large enterprises (with at least 50 employees) in Italy is around 1 percent, contributing 55 percent to value added. The rest is divided between small (20 percent) and micro-enterprises (25 percent) shares significantly higher than the EU average.
