Istat, exports drop 2.1 percent in April, for imports +13.9 percent

Istat estimates, in April, a cyclical decrease for exports of 2.1 percent, in the second consecutive decline, “to which lower sales of non-durable consumer goods and intermediate goods mainly contribute,” and a “marked” increase for imports of 13.9 percent in Italy’s exchanges with non-European countries. This interrupts the negative economic dynamics of imports that have been in place since last September. On an annual basis, exports are down 5.1 percent (after +6.8 percent in March), and imports are also down 19.5 percent.
